PLASTINEST at the One Ocean Science Congress in Nice

On 3–6 June 2024, ahead of the United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3), the One Ocean Science Congress brought together researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders in Nice, in an event organized by CNRS and Ifremer.

Three members of the PLASTINEST project – Vania Ruiz-González, Charlotte Lefebvre and Isabel Jalón-Rojas, took part, presenting their latest work on marine plastic pollution. Their contributions focused on three complementary aspects: the role of estuaries in the dispersion and trapping of microplastics (PLASTINEST presentation), the toxicity of discarded fishing nets, and the trajectories of fishing gear in the Bay of Biscay.

The congress provided a valuable opportunity to present PLASTINEST research within a global dialogue on ocean sustainability and to strengthen connections with international colleagues on the urgent issue of plastic pollution.
